Anxiety is our body’s natural response to stress and was designed by God to help us recognize potentially dangerous situations to stay safe, but it can become unhealthy when the stress response is activated for extended time or interferes with your daily life. Persistent feelings of apprehension, nervousness, worry, and/or fear can have debilitating impacts on your life, mental and physical health, but it is possible to find peace.

And that’s where True Hope Christian Counseling comes in to help!

At True Hope Christian Counseling, we address anxiety by uncovering underlying sources of worry, developing coping strategies, releasing control, and finding security in God.

How Can Counseling Help You Overcome Persistent Anxiety?

Symptoms of anxiety are not only deeply uncomfortable - but can also limit your quality of life and growth. You might find yourself dreading or even avoiding social interactions, professional opportunities, daily experiences, etc. Your anxiety can impact your relationships, career, personal progress and can also contribute to other mental and physical health issues.

But it is important to know that there is hope and counseling can provide a safe place where you can openly discuss, heal from and ultimately overcome your fears without judgment.

Through targeted work, counseling plays a crucial role in managing your symptoms and helping you overcome persistent anxiety by:

- providing a safe environment for support
- processing fears and trauma
- identifying underlying triggers
- uncovering a better understanding of thought processes
- challenging negative thoughts patterns and replacing them with healthy ones
- developing healthy coping strategies that promote and restore relaxation

As counselors, we provide emotional support and professional guidance which is essential during recovery from any mental health condition and can make a significant difference in an individual's journey towards mental well-being.

Is Counseling for Anxiety Right for You?

Do you feel frequently plagued by feelings of anxiousness and worry? Do you find it difficult to slow and filter your thoughts as your mind races? Are you constantly faced with thoughts of worst case scenarios and possible dangers?

Anxiety is a normal response to stress that everyone experiences. However, when it becomes persistent and overwhelming, interfering with daily activities and causing significant distress, it may be indicative of an anxiety disorder (ie generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias).

If you're experiencing symptoms of anxiety such as constant worry, feeling restless, experiencing fatigue, difficult concentrating, sleep disturbance, rapid heart rate, gastrointestinal issues, etc that cause significant distress or impairment in your life, then professional help can be an important step in recovery.

Recognizing when you need help is the first step towards recovery and the truth is that there is no wrong time to seek the support of a licensed counselor. If your feelings of anxiety persist for extended periods and interfere with your daily life – affecting your work performance, relationships, or physical health – or if you are seeking emotional and spiritual support, we are here to help meet you where you are and walk with you through this season.

Our Biblical Approach to Anxiety Treatment:

As Christian Counselors, we rely both on psychology and theology to inform our approach in helping individuals find peace and comfort amidst their struggles.

Anxiety is not a new phenomenon and through scripture, God acknowledges our human propensity towards worry and fear and also provides reassurances of His care and provision which can bring peace amidst our anxieties.

Anxiety is a part of life in our fallen world. It's not necessarily a sign of weak faith or spiritual failure but rather an opportunity for growth and reliance on God’s strength. In this way, we can approach anxiety without self-condemnation but rather with a humility that encourages our understanding that we can look to Him for comfort and find peace in his sovereignty.

At True Hope Christian Counseling, we use the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) alongside biblical teachings to help you cope with anxiety so that you may challenge negative thought patterns and ultimately find peace and protection in God and His Word.

Counseling for Anxiety FAQs

  • We encourage you to access and complete the required intake forms (located on the client forms page) ahead of your first appointment and bring these items with you. Or if you prefer, you can instead choose to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled time to complete the required paperwork.

Your first session will be used to review your goals for counseling and to get to know you and your needs. We will begin to address these needs and make the most suitable plan for ongoing therapy targeted specifically to your situation.

This plan often involves regularly scheduled appointments and the frequency and duration of counseling will depend on your goals, progress and unique needs. At times, there may also be recommendations made for tasks/”homework” to be completed outside of sessions to promote growth and increase the effectiveness of topics discussed during counseling. In most cases, we begin with weekly or biweekly sessions and make adjustments to taper the frequency over time.

  • Counseling has been proven to be highly effective in managing and treating anxiety disorders.

Research supports that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective therapeutic approaches to anxiety treatment. It focuses on identifying negative thought patterns that contribute to feelings of anxiety and teaches individuals how to replace them with healthier ones.

At True Hope Christian Counseling, we utilize research based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the truths of the gospel to approach anxiety treatment through a holistic approach to target both spiritual and mental health.
